JPS provides customized accounting & bookkeeping solutions for clients doing business in Japan. A Japanese legal entity is required to maintain accounting records in Japanese. Accounts need to be prepared in accordance with Japanese accounting standards. JPS provides management reports to clients in English on a monthly basis. This reporting is prepared in accordance with each client’s specific requirements. Usually this reporting is provided in Excel which can then be uploaded into the clients’ own system. After year-end, the accounts are finalized and attached to the corporate tax and Japanese consumption tax (VAT) returns. Our service aims to ensure that clients maintain a high level of statutory compliance. In addition, we can undertake special purpose accounting – for example to clients who are utilizing a tokumei kumiai structure in Japan.

Cash reports are generally provided to the foreign head office on a weekly or monthly basis. JPS tracks cash on hand and makes funding requests when the account balance runs low. JPS offers full Payroll and HR solutions to clients in Japan. Our solutions are designed to meet the needs of both expat and locally hired employees. Expat payroll starts with initial consulting aimed at ensuring compensation is delivered in a tax efficient manner. This includes the use of company provided housing benefits and / or delivering compensation (at least) partly offshore. For locally hired employees, the initial concern is more likely to focus on statutory social insurance and labor insurance. Payroll is done on a monthly basis and deductions are made for local and national tax, labor insurance, and social insurance. Net pay is deposited into the employees’ Japan bank accounts and a payroll advice slip is delivered to each employee. Statutory deductions are remitted to the relevant Japanese government agency.
